The 2024 Chicago Bears season continues to circle the drain. Thankfully the season ends next week and we start chanting the Chicago sports teams' mantra: There is always next year. Hopefully the Bears get their act together here. To do that, the one variable that has been the same since 2011needs to step aside and be "hands off". Maybe then, the ship will right it's course.
George McCaskey, please, please, please stay out of the way. Lovie Smith, after a winning season, was shown the door under your direction of the team. Since then, there has been a revolving door of coaches, GMs, staffs.....Mr. McCaskey under your leadership our beloved Bears have become a laughingstock on par with Jets (sorry Jets fans). The "Sell the Team" chants that have rained down at Soldier Field won't happen as long as Virginia McCaskey is living. So George needs to shrink into the background and let "Football People" make the football decisions.
Now the General Manager position. Team President Kevin Warren has a decision to make: to extend or not extend Poles' contract. Whispers of " well if the next coach wants him gone..." is just a cop out. Let's face it, if you are going to hire a new General Manager, shouldn't that hire come before the next Head Coach. A General Manager should have a say in the coach that holds the fate of their continued employment in their hands. If there is any doubt (which there should be) of extending Poles' contract this late in the year, then right after the Packers game this announcement should be made/ The Chicago Bears and Ryan Poles have mutually agreed to part ways. The Bears organization wishes Mr. Poles Good Luck in his future endeavors.
Now Mr. Warren, you are up to bat. Hiring a new General Manager and Head Coaching tandem that has the same vision for the team. If their directions aren't aligned, this insanity continues. To make sure that doesn't happen, George needs to stay out of Kevin's way. No phone calls, no lunches, no picking candidates up at the airport....NOTHING! Be smart enough to know what you don't know and let the folks with a football acumen to make the decisions for the team.
